Birmingham, 22/07/22 – SDET Academy Selection Day
nFocus Testing welcomed 20 people to a selection day on Friday 22nd July. This event has proved to be popular with over 200 computer science (or similar degree) applicants hoping to join the SDET Programme, this being the third selection day in eight months.
This day typically involves 1-1 interviews, team building tasks and specific exercises which enable the selectors to assess team fit and aptitude, along with how the candidates perform in various situations.
The Academy has been developed organically as a result of an industry shortage of SDETs. Building robust test automation has always been difficult but in recent years, it has been compounded by a scarcity of skills. To understand this further, we interviewed 160 Senior IT decision makers. The research found that organisations are finding it difficult to recruit technical testers and that more worryingly still, only 32% of organisations have testers that could code. This suggests that the pool of appropriately skilled people to recruit from is small. With 75% of the companies we spoke to working in an iterative methodology, the need for strong Automation Testers is growing and there are not enough of them out there to meet that demand. With a shortage of Software Development Engineers in Test and an overheated job market, Technical Testers are as rare as unicorns!
At nFocus, we’re addressing this shortage with our SDET Academy to bring in the next generation of SDETs. We are selecting the best and brightest graduates and developing them into SDETs through our specifically designed technical testing bootcamp. Once graduated, they’re ready for immediate placement to help accelerate client’s automated testing efforts.
We’re very pleased to have offered eleven applicants the opportunity to join the programme – all of whom will begin their 10 weeks intensive training next week before joining our client’s projects from October!
