Telford, 31/03/22 – Charity of the Year – 10k Step Challenge
nFocus have completed their ‘Walk All Over Cancer’ 10k step challenge in aid of Cancer Research UK. The team have been actively playing their part in raising money and walking 10,000 steps a day for the company’s chosen charity.
Over a century of life-changing research, Cancer Research UK was formed 20 years ago in 2002. Although, their history goes back much further to 1902. Their goal is to find advanced ways to diagnose, prevent and treat cancer sooner. Over the last 40 years, cancer survival in the UK has doubled. In the 1970s, just 1 in 4 people survived their disease for 10 years or more. Today, 2 in 4 survive. Their ambition is to accelerate progress and see 3 in 4 patients surviving the disease by 2034.
Eve Lister, nFocus’ Marketing Executive and one of participants said: “Having a goal to achieve has really motivated me to get outside and walk. Knowing that the money raised will make some difference in improving the survival rate of people with cancer. I have been touched by the stories people have shared with me detailing their reasons for donating to Cancer Research UK.”
We are really pleased to say that we have raised £1,560.00 + £267.25 Gift Aid in the first of many fundraising events this year for the charity. This is incredible as we have exceeded our overall target. The challenge has raised £2,560,845.96 + £448,883.89 Gift Aid in total and we are very proud to have made a contribution towards the final total. Well done everybody!
A final word from Eve: “The alarm went off an hour earlier on 1st March, I would like to say I jumped out of bed but I didn’t! It was misty outside and the sun was just rising. This challenge of walking 10k a day was going to be a tough one for me. I knew that I wasn’t alone in this as our Whatsapp support group testified that some of the others were underestimating the challenge of getting going. I decided to make a photo collage of each days to look back on and see what the weather has been like. Started out with a wooly hat and gloves then finished in t-shirt and sunglasses. The response from friends and family has been really great. I also feel I have benefitted both mentally and physically.”
If you missed out donating to this worthwhile charity, then you will have the opportunity to do so in our future fundraising events throughout the year.
